EXPERIENCE & PERSONAL COMMITMENT

Having 29 years of experience teaching French in 3 countries and on 2 continents, I chose to take a path off the beaten track.

Today's schools have prompted me to reflect, for the most part in the Quebec press, on the undeniable commodification of education that goes hand in hand with the massification of education and on semantic shifts that mainly involve collaboration, a new form of politeness that distorts the meaning of the word, versus cooperation, learning versus success. I can't resign myself to teaching without being part of a quest for freedom, free expression, critical thinking, and rhetoric.

In my professional life, I aspire to play my part in creating a better world, to be in perfect harmony with my values, to dare to be authentic, and to promote autonomy and freedom, the first of all securities.

THE PURSUIT OF HUMAN HAPPINESS

According to the philosopher Vico, the reason for learning is the heroism of the mind that contributes to human happiness. To do this, we need to cultivate a generous, competent, and open point of view that travels the world through knowledge with human happiness as its goal. A bit like a daisy! It symbolizes new beginnings, loyalty, purity, love, and fertility. In other words, everything that learning a language can bring you.

THE IMPORTANCE OF LANGUAGE IN COMMUNICATION

What the academy also wants to give you is emotion. No one put it better than Nelson Mandela: "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart." Nelson Mandela

To make good, lasting deals, you need to put your heart, emotion, trust, and empathy into them, and that means concluding them in your customer's language. The philosopher Philippa Foot discovered in an experiment called "The Mad Tramway" that when a problem is not presented in people's mother tongue, 50% of them will make the most practical decision, compared with 20% of those to whom the problem was given in their language. We are, therefore, morally dependent on the language in which we construct the world.
